Northwest Law Enforcement Academy was created to fill a very real need for effective training of law enforcement personnel.

Northwest Law Enforcement Academy

Established in 2001 by Herb Stephen, retired Chief of Police for Winnipeg Police Service, the Northwest Law Enforcement Academy is a post-secondary educational institution located in Winnipeg. The academy offers an accelerated 12-month program (equivalent to 2.5 years of post-secondary education) consisting of 850 hours of intensive theoretical and practical instruction, plus 200 hours of logged physical fitness time and community volunteer practicums.

Three intakes per year (April, September and October) and morning or afternoon classes can accommodate family or work commitments. All uniforms, textbooks and parking are included with the tuition.

The academy requires high standards in ethics, responsibility and academic achievement. Students develop their talents in a structured and challenging environment under the guidance of highly experienced instructors who are all recognized as experts in their fields.

Recruiters from law enforcement agencies across Canada regularly visit the Academy, and hiring prospects for top students are extremely positive. Graduates of the Academy are employed in police and law enforcement agencies throughout Canada including:
